Preparations Underway for Smooth Conduct of Amarnath Pilgrimage 2024: Labour Commissioner Chairs Meeting

In a bid to ensure a seamless and hassle-free experience for pilgrims embarking on the revered journey to the Holy Cave of Shri Amarnathji in 2024, the Labour Commissioner of Jammu & Kashmir, Charandeep Singh, presided over a preparatory meeting with Labour Department officials on Wednesday.

The meeting, attended by key officials including Deputy Labour Commissioners and Assistant Labour Commissioners from various districts, focused on charting out the Action Plan-2024 for the registration of service providers essential for facilitating the pilgrimage. These service providers include Ponywalas, Palkiwalas, Pithuwalas, and Dandiwalas, who play a crucial role in assisting Yatris along both the Pahalgam and Baltal Axis routes to the Holy Cave.

Labour Commissioner Singh underscored the pivotal role of the Labour Department in ensuring the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, emphasizing the need for timely and hassle-free registration of service providers. He highlighted that advance registration would be facilitated both in the native districts of the service providers and at designated camps in Ganderbal and Anantnag Districts.

Singh further instructed the Labour Department officials to promptly communicate the commencement dates of the registration process through various media channels, including print, electronic, and social media, to ensure maximum participation and awareness among service providers.

Moreover, the Labour Commissioner stressed the importance of coordination with other line departments involved in hiring contractors and contract workers for various Pilgrimage-related tasks. He emphasized the need for sharing the list of engaged contractors with the Labour Department to safeguard the interests of contract workers regarding wages, working hours, and basic amenities.

During the previous pilgrimage season in 2023, a total of 32,819 service providers were registered by the Labour Department, comprising Ponywalas, Palki/Dandiwalas, and Pithuwalas. Registration camps were established across strategic locations in Districts Ganderbal and Anantnag, along with other district headquarters, to facilitate the registration process.

As preparations gain momentum for the Amarnath Pilgrimage 2024, the concerted efforts of the Labour Department underscore their commitment to ensuring a safe and spiritually enriching journey for all pilgrims undertaking this sacred odyssey.
