Amarnath Shrine Board Set to Revolutionize Pilgrimage Experience with Enhanced Helicopter Service for 2024

In a monumental move aimed at transforming the pilgrimage experience to the hallowed Amarnath Cave, the Amarnath Shrine Board has unveiled a series of dynamic enhancements to its helicopter service for the upcoming 2024 season.

Following the culmination of the contractual terms for all helicopter operators in 2023, including esteemed names such as Global Vectra, Kestral Aviation, Arrow Aviation, Heritage Aviation, and government-operated Pawan Hans, the Shrine Board has once again extended invitations for participation in the tender process. Noteworthy among the returning operators is Himalayan Heli Services, whose services were discontinued previously, alongside other reputable firms boasting extensive aviation experience.

Of paramount significance is the revision of helicopter fares for 2024. Rates have been adjusted to Rs 3146, inclusive of taxes, for a single 10-minute journey from Neelgrath to Panchtarni, and Rs 4720 per person for the route from Pahalgam to Panchtarni. Despite this increase compared to the previous year, the Shrine Board assures devotees of upgraded services and stringent safety measures.

Furthermore, in a proactive measure to streamline ticketing processes and thwart fraudulent activities, the government is contemplating outsourcing the helicopter ticketing service to IRCTC, mirroring the system successfully implemented for the Kedarnath pilgrimage. IRCTC will manage and facilitate ticket bookings for the Amarnath Helicopter service, applying a convenience fee of Rs 300 per passenger for round-trip journeys and Rs 200 for one-way trips, exclusive of GST. This strategic maneuver aims to ensure transparent and efficient ticketing procedures, fostering trust among pilgrims.

Moreover, the Shrine Board is exploring the possibility of implementing dynamic fares, akin to the Kedarnath helicopter service, to accommodate fluctuating demand and ensure equitable pricing.

Regarding the booking process, while the Shrine Board intends to continue offering ticket bookings through its official website, jksasb.nic.in, preparations are underway for potential outsourcing to IRCTC. Pilgrims will be required to register on the Shrine Board’s website to procure a unique registration ID, which will serve as the gateway for booking helicopter tickets through the designated IRCTC portal.

With these pioneering initiatives, the Amarnath Shrine Board is poised to revolutionize the pilgrimage experience, promising devotees an unparalleled journey of spiritual fulfillment amidst the serene Himalayan landscape. Stay tuned for further updates as the 2024 pilgrimage season approaches.
